Are you suffering from awards season fatigue? If so, it’s understandable, although there was one bright point amid the long winded speeches and endless red carpet procession at last night’s Oscars: Yes, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross followed up their Golden Globe win by grabbing an Academy Award for their soundtrack to David Fincher’s The Social Network.
“Wow. Is this really happening?” asked Reznor as he picked up the coveted award. “When we finished, we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words.”
Reznor later claimed that he had bugged Fincher to let him and Ross compose the music for the film. “I’m very glad we did,” he said, which feels like a considerable understatement considering the success they have enjoyed. “It’s been the best experience I’ve ever had from start to finish.”
