Though the ethereal and elusive track "I Can't Stand It" has gotten the Brooklyn avant garde group Telepathe noticed by the cool kids (and um, me) it seems their heart isn't completely devoted to that song's fragile sound. The influences listed on the MySpace page of core duo Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais begins with 3-6 Mafia and features none of the free form Gang Gang Dance types that the girls have been generally lumped together with. The hip hop love is no idle name dropping either. Spank Rock's Alex XXXChange has been brought on board to mix their as of yet unannounced full length debut, of which "Chrome's on It" is the first certified sample.
Though it's not likely to be a BET staple anytime soon, the aggressively cascading drum machine sounds set it apart immediately from the work of their borough's bearded peers. The girls' floating sing song serves as the rhythm's intriguing opposite in the early seconds, but eventually they stick to the beat, spitting their lines in a quicker staccato. The signature delicacy of the vocals never departs entirely, even when it has to duel in the background with squealing synth sirens. Miraculously, this bizarre cross pollination manages some significant coherence.
