Track Review: Sunn O))) & Boris - The Sinking Belle (Blue Sheep) [Altar]
So, you might--quite reasonably--be expecting some bowel-busting drone metal here, but that's not the case. Not that you'll find it to be in short supply throughout the album, but "The Sinking Belle (Blue Sheep)" is completely unlike anything you've ever heard from these two bands.
For starters, they've recruited Jesse Sykes as a guest vocalist. While this seems completely bizarre in theory, Sykes' ethereal vocals are the perfect compliment to the slow-burning track, with it's post-rock meets dream pop sound. Mogwai probably isnt the most accurate point of reference, but it's the first one that comes to mind. You'd never think these guys (and girl) had it in them, but you'll be glad they did.

This is seriously one of the best songs I've heard in a long time.

I didn't expect this. I hate Sunn o))), but this song is so beautiful. I was blown away. If they did more stuff like this, i could probably get into them.

I have heard a few songs by sunn o))) and it's definitely not my cup of tea, but this song is.. it's definitely one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. They, or someone should do more stuff like this, because it really is like nothing I've ever heard before.
Mogwai isn't what came to my mind when I heard it, and I've never made the connection, but I think you're right, that is probably what comes closest to the sound.

A lot of their stuff is great, but this is really beautiful. More Mogwai, you're right, than drone metal.
