Track Review- Spoon "The Ghost of You Lingers"

Over on the left, you can take a gander at the previously announced album cover art for Spoon's next album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, due out on July 10th on Merge. Down below, you'll hear the the first scrambled signals from the album. Thankfully "The Ghost of You Lingers" isn't the minimalist nursery rhyme that the album title would suggest, but it's got its own weirdness to answer for - this puppy is Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga's "Small Stakes," built entirely on a repetitive piano vamp and the ghostly whoosh of Britt Daniel's voice across the stereo spectrum. No guitar, no percussion, no bullshit.

i always wonder what jim eno thinks about these songs when daniels pitches them...

Mike Krolak

I always wonder if Jim Eno is related to Brian. Because that would be hella cool.

John Zeiss

Am I wrong for not being too excited about this song?

Anthony

I'm not too thrilled by it either. I was hoping that maybe it was just a leaked intro track rather than a full-fledged single, 'cuz that's what it sounds like.

Etan Rosenbloom

record is on oink. or so i hear.

Mike Krolak

Ouch. That's too early to leak. Album is not out for about 2 months!

Dave Park

Interpol's album is also out on July 10.

Dave Park

i don't make the news, i break it. or something.

Mike Krolak

what's oink? I've never heard of that. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.

bza

Never cared much for spoon - but I really dig this track. Bza, your sarcasm fools noone - go back to your shanty

John B.

Do bands ever leak their own tracks for the sake of getting to read feedback before making final changes? It would be massively smart if that were the case with this leak, I think.
