Track Review: Shellac "Steady As She Goes"

It's been a long time since the world was graced with 1000 Hurts, the last album from Steve Albini's main recording outfit Shellac, and from the sounds of this new track "Steady As She Goes," not much has changed in the intervening seven years. All the Shellac trademarks are there - Albini's strangled guitar tone, Bob Weston and Todd Trainer's tightly-coiled rhythm section clunk, the so-repetitive-they-might-be-trying-to-piss-us-off riffery. The one new element is the raspiness in Albini's vocals, which were always harsh but never quite this throaty.
"Steady As She Goes" has been in live rotation for a couple years now, but it'll be released in recorded format on Shellac's new album Excellent Italian Greyhound, set for a June 5th release on Touch & Go.

I wish Roland would come out of retirement. A Big Black reunion would be awesome.

Big Black did reunite. You just had to be would have had to catch their live set last September here in Chicago in order to experience it. They playing The Hideout's yearly festival which was themed by the Touch and Go 25th Anniversary. Plus, you can always bring Roland out of retirement and pick up you own TR-606!
