Track Review: Hercules and Love Affair "Classique #2"

Just when we think we have DFA's signing pattern sussed out, they double back on us. The recent ace pick ups of art-rock bands Prinzhorn Dance School and Shocking Pinks suggested a move towards less dance saturation, and then, just when we're expecting a straight up punk band from Brazil or something, we get socked in the chin by a disco-house sucker punch (the grooviest of all known sucker punches).
"Classique #2" is the first DFA single from Brooklyn DJ/Producer Andrew Butler, with a bit of production help from label man Tim Goldsworthy. Burbling synth clusters bubble forth immediately, with euphoric radio samples, and a classically sultry female vocal soon chiming in. But unlike the hedonistic excess of vintage disco, this sounds svelte. It brings some of house music's streamlined beats to the retro party.
It's getting boring to keep saying this, but another nice pick-up for the DFA imprint.

That track is pretty weak in comparision to the new ones by other DFA(and DFAbroad) signees Still Going, and Gucci Soundsystem.
