Track Review: Feist "Somewhere Down The Road"

In the Prefix review of Feist's breakthrough album Let It Die, we said that Feist was "poised to wake the same audience that Norah Jones put to sleep." Now's the chance to see if we were right - we just caught wind of a new Feist song, penned by Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Jesse Harris, who wrote much of Norah's first album Come Away With Me. It comes from the soundtrack to Ethan Hawke's upcoming film The Hottest State, which features a batch of Harris tunes covered by a number of indie rock notables.
This one is simply lovely, with a somewhat fatalistic lyric backed by twinkling electric guitar, muted horns, a bit of Hammond organ, chimes and some unobtrusive hand-drumming. The glowing production is definitely of a piece with the stripped-down feel of Let It Die, and Leslie Feist herself sounds perfect, as usual.
