Track Review: Eminem - "No Apologies"

The lone Eminem solo track on the new Re-Up record is a perfect encapsulation of Eminem's talents (and missteps) at the moment. A few excellent verses that use the usual complicated rhyme schemes and sly wordplay that made Em one of the contemporary greats assure fans that he has not lost any of his skills on the mike. But along with that stunning display comes the things that give fans pause, the over-the-top delivery that has Em teetering on self-parody, the retread subject matter that doesn't go anywhere new, and worst of all, the keyboard and muffled drum dark cinematic beat with faint vocals and bells that got old in about 2002. I'm not 100% sure if this is an Eminem beat, but if it isn't, someone has been studying his oeuvre a little too closely for anyone's good.

Yall are the most studpid ass people on earth. His work is so good, it can be jused for literary analisis. Em jus has to understand that he is never going to make everyone happy. I tell you this tho, compare his lyrics to popular songs out now, Ballin-Jim Jones, Show me what you got-Jay-z, I would rather listen to this, something that you say he has already done, than some empty ass lyrics behind some synthecized beat. This shit is better than a lot of shit right now, so get over, Jim and J and cop re-up stupid asses

eminem back to his best, nobody can touch him when he is like this

November 30, 2006 at 2:35 p.m.

This track is actually quite good. I think the beat and 'muffed' vocals go along with the taking of 'yellows' that keep him 'mellow.' In other words, it's on purpose and quite fitting. But I think his flows on "Jimmy Crack Corn" are even better. Frequent vocal tempo changes, great lyrics, and you gotta love the reference to him being like a snake. Too bad 50's part of that song kinda reek. Hope Em stays in this direction.

this shit was fire, everyone talks about how nas and jay z are the best rappers around right now but i betchu ne thing Em would murk em in a freestyle, and yall are talkin about its not as good as when he first started, pffft.. people do grow up and mature so git use to this Em, the one that doesnt rap about stuff that makes no sense, the flow in this song was sick and the beat was raw too, i dont care wut people say that shyt was one of the best songs i heard from ne 1 for like 3 years now.. im coppin that shyt

December 1, 2006 at 10:29 p.m.

u guys need to get off ems dick... this is his first hot shit in like 5 yearsanyone who thinks he is better than nas obviously doesn't listen to rap

December 7, 2006 at 12:52 a.m.

you must be f-ed in the head if you can say this song isnt one of his greatest. All this bullshit about his beat being lame, and over used lyrics that dont go anywhere. how about you stop over analyizing everything and actually listen to his raw talent. if you cant get your ass out there and rip that mic better then him, then you shouldnt be saying shit. this is em back again, proving he is the best.

"No Apologies''" shows he still has it. This is the best track from him in atleast 4 years maybe even the best. I hope for him and me that he keeps making songs like this and stop doing the gangsta and club records.

December 9, 2006 at 8:42 a.m.

December 9, 2006 at 1:41 p.m.

December 10, 2006 at 7:25 a.m.

lyrics go hard but that beat is trash sound like some dr-5 shit

December 13, 2006 at 11:15 p.m.

of course it sounds like his old shit the lyrics are recycled from freestyles he did with proof in london with tim westwood on the decks (first two verses anyway), the rest of it is solid tho. if only he could still spit like on infinite...hard times bring out the best in music.

December 14, 2006 at 1:58 p.m.

I agree with Reem. He is unmatched. And lane- the beat is not trash. It's brilliant.

December 16, 2006 at 12:20 p.m.

Alright i'm see the comparisons between nas and jay and people quickly saying em isnt in their league and all that shit. First of i love nas, the nas that did illmatic stillmatic and yeah hip hop is dead is fire, but nas as jay would say,"That's a one hot album every ten year average" so get off nas's dick and dont start talking shit about em not producing shit for 5 yrs (untrue) when he was creating a record label that has the most talent in rap history, 50, the infamous mobb, obi, and cashis to name a few. As far as the originality of his lyrics have you heard the new jay cd? "HES STILL THE GREATEST", yeah thats fn original fellas. i love jay but he hasnt been original since blueprint, do you remember blueprint 2? me either. Em will always be under appreciated cuz hes white and different, but he kills shit when he wants to and leaves us with gems. its a renegade.

December 17, 2006 at 1:54 a.m.

Hey tnetiny, you know a rapper called Immortal Technique? He is 100 million times better than em.His lyrics are better than ems too. That shows that you aint gotta clue about real hip hop MCs.Em became a wannabe. His only good LPs are The Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP.His another LPs are pieces of shit.Fuck the rookie fifty fuck Buck, fuck yayo, fuck em...

December 17, 2006 at 1:58 p.m.

okay...you guys have just been listening to what other people have been saying about em. i dont see how he's going downhill or any of that .....seriously..? in this song he possesses so much energy and the beat is perfect for the mood on the song. take it from someone who studies music.

December 18, 2006 at 11:24 a.m.

actually i agree, "No apologies" is fierce & raw, maybe only the truly meaninfull & best track on the RE-UP

December 18, 2006 at 11:31 a.m.

This is not Eminem at it's best though. I still think this song feels kinda old. BTW, if this Immortal Technique dude is so good, & all this shit i've been readin u ppl say, where is his record deal?? These days anybody can get a fuckin record deal with sum talent, so where is his you punk!!?

December 18, 2006 at 11:33 a.m.

December 18, 2006 at 2:12 p.m.

eminem is a true rapper n u can sit n listen to his stuff n wat he says

December 19, 2006 at 2 a.m.

Listen. Peopel say Em is the greatest.. blah blah blah. He possesses talent but he hasnt put out naythign decent in a while. However, this is reall HOTT and shows he does still have it if he tries. Immortal technique being the greatest.. nah. Hes good at what he does, the political rap with a message, but honestly his flow aint all that, althgouh his lyrics make up for it. I saw tech perform.. decent show.I saw tech, saigon, and styles P all at teh same place, and let me tell you.. Saigon put on teh hottest show.Saigon all day.

December 19, 2006 at 2:19 a.m.

@S David: Just read some lyrics of Immortal techniques songs. Those people who know him even claim that he is more talented than tupac.Cuz his lyrics are extremely intelligent.Nobody writes such intelligent and great lyrics like Immortal Technique, you trash metaler!

June 11, 2007 at 6:48 a.m.

yo love dis song. EMINEM loove u lots more... loootss ... great music i loveee it looots too.. mannn ...k bye

March 24, 2008 at 5:09 p.m.

for you people who think KJ-52 dissed Eminem then you are stupid and retarded and don't know how to listen, KJ-52 does NOT i'll say it again so maybe you can read it - DOES NOT!!! diss Eminem in his songs Dear Slim and Dear Slim Pt.2 - he just wants to tell Eminem that he has a great deal of respect for him and he just wants him to know that Jesus loves him and with the influence and talent that Eminem has that he could use it for so much more if he wanted too, there are no disses in that song, i have all of KJ-52 cds and this is also not a diss to KJ-52, but nice try...one love one God one way

December 2, 2008 at 2:52 a.m.

to the guy who says "clearly immortal technique isn't good cuz he don't have a record deal"...

he's independant, anyone would fckin sign him, give his songs a chance, you'll know what he thinks about major labels pretty quickly.

he wants to produce his own music, not have someone tell him what and what not to say to get more sales and reach larger markets. major labels are about profit, he's about the message. now u know whos real
