Track Review: Deer Tick "Diamond Rings 2007"

Though the blogosphere can easily be faulted for hoisting up flimsy song writing attached to transparent gimmickry, you have to admire the fact that its breadth and depth can find songs this modest and pretty as well. A twenty something from Rhode Island has no right to the lovelorn crackle that John McCauley's voice possesses. It's well suited to the gentle yet lively backing track, which sounds like British kids in the sixties failing to recreate the authentic country and western they found only on long forgotten vinyl rounds. This will sound perfect scoring a poignant moment between brothers during some Wes Anderson movie ten years from now, when it's faded from everyone else's memory.

Weird. Over the weekend I got into a disagreement with a friend who insisted that Deerhunter was from Rhode Island. He must've been thinking of Deer Tick.
