Track review: Band of Horses "Is There a Ghost"

Band of HorsesIntro music. It feels like Band of Horses is building up to something altogether grander when the drums and disto pedals kick in on "Is There a Ghost," but turns out the entire thing was just an afterthought, tasteful repetition until coda. "I could sleep/ I could slee-eep/ when I lived alone/ Is there a ghost in my house?" No ghosts here, but maybe an estranged relationship? Singer Ben Bridwell's hyper-melodic phrasing and his band's Joshua Tree hugeness make the track as equally immediate as inconsequential, and I enjoyed the ride while it lasted.
Check out the track, which kicks off BoH's upcoming Cease to Begin, on the band's MySpace page.

If beards sold albums, this band would be certified platinum.

How in is facial hair right now for hip bands? In by the pound, that's how much. Get a growin', dudes!
