Toshiba has introduced a 100GB 1.8 inch hard drive, planned for mass production in January. Previously, such drives have been snapped up by Apple for their iPod line of digital music players - you may have heard of this product already. You can carry an entire record store worth of MP3's in that space, true, but perhaps more interesting is the capacity to have a significant amount of songs with lossless audio compression. Convenience almost always trumps quality, but why suffer through average MP3 quality if you don't have to? Ripping Diplo's Fabriclive mix (note: not an industry standard benchmark) with Apple's lossless scheme yielded 467 Megabytes worth of music. Rounding in completely unscientific fashion, that gives you 200 albums worth of music on your new 100 GB iPod - it may not represent your entire collection, but it's a good chunk of it.
