Though we live in very politically divisive times, Tom Petty is an artist that bridges the conservative/liberal chasm- to a point. The artist's management team has demanded that conservative candidate Michele Bachmann never again use Petty's "American Girl" at any future rallies. Petty is following in the steps of Bruce Springsteen, who famously chastised Ronald Reagan for using "Born In the U.S.A." during his run for the White House in 1984. Though it would seem that this is another setback for Bachmann, who is already enduring a rough week after identifying with the American spirit of John Wayne Gacy, perhaps this is a ray of sunshine for Ted Nugent fans, who can look forward to hearing a lot of his songs at political rallies in the near future.
