Toby Keith joins Wilco, Ludacris, and Bob Dylan in support of Obama
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has received endorsements from lots of musicians, but a recent endorsement from the man behind “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” is possibly the most unexpected. Toby Keith, who campaigned for the reelection of George Bush in 2004, told Associated Press reporter Ryan Pearson that he supports Obama and is a registered Democrat:

“There’s a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up. I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things. So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it’s really important that those things have to take place. And I think he’s the best Democratic candidate we’ve had since Bill Clinton. And that’s coming from a Democrat."

Hopefully a voter won’t base his or her choice on the entertainment figures that endorse a candidate, but statements from an artist with a fanbase like Keith’s could help Obama gain a little credibility in the “red” states he’ll need for victory. If the endorsement puts him over the top, we could be not only looking at a dark horse to play the Inaugural Ball, but the nation’s new Secretary of Four Wheelin’. [Tiny Mix Tapes]

He's also doing publicity with the Dixie Chicks against global warming.

mannya - there is no reason to be afraid of Toby. He's nothing like some of these jerks are saying, they don't know him. They don't like him because he is an in your face kind of guy, but I will tell you something, I would rather know someone like him who tells it like it is and doesn't care what people think at least I know where he is coming from. He is a down to earth guy that cares arout his family, the military and does a lot for charities. He seems tough and bad but he has a heart of gold. Ask some of the children he has helped and the families he has helped and you will see. Ask some of the military and you will see. He is outspoken but honest and if you talk to people that have been close to him he will give you the shirt off his back. That's what people need to do, talk to people who have worked with Toby for years and years and people that have been around him. Listen to his interviews and what he stands for and you will see the true Toby Keith, not what some of these people are trying to portray him as. Take Care and God Bless.

Mburr - that fell through. They couldn't find any dates that they could work it out. It would have been great to see it but it looks like its a no go.

Thanks Jean I'll give ol' T.K. a break. I had nothing against him or his music.

I never read anywhere that he said he was voting for Obama, only that he liked him. If I am wrong, can someone tell me where I can find the article?

I also like Obama but it would be a cold day in hell. Lots of folks like him, we just don't know how much trust to place in him. Got nothing to do with him as a human, just a politician.
