Wait a minute, this is a Tindersticks video? Where's the sweeping drama? The grand gestures? The mood lighting? The disconsolate romantic ambience? Where's the freakin' string section?! And for the love of God, why does Stuart Staples look like he just got off the night shift from his job as a Parisian hotel concierge and sat down in the basement for a strum that just happened to be captured by a security camera? This kind of laissez faire approach is not what we expect from our beloved Tindersticks! Have we turned back the clock to the dress-it-down grunge era or something? (If so, please kill me immediately and leave my Lambchop records to my precocious nephew, thanks).
That said, it's still nice to have a little preview of the forthcoming 'sticks album, however ascetic the approach may be. The song? Oh, that. Pretty, understated, melancholic, elegant, you know...Tindersticks. It's the title track from their forthcoming album The Hungry Saw, incidentally, which is due out 4/28 on Beggars. Maybe we should set up some kind of Paypal account for contributions to fund a proper video to accompany the album release?
