Times New Viking Announce New LP, Born Again Revisited

Lo-fo psych-rockers Times New Viking have announced their fourth LP (and second for Matador), Born Again Revisited, is due out in September. September 22, to be exact.

The band promise that the album has 25 percent higher fidelity, which in regards to Times New Viking means that tape hiss takes up about 40 percent of the mix instead of 65. Speaking of tapes, the Columbus, Ohio-based band, according to Matador, turned the album in on VHS tape just to be awesome.

Matador is streaming a track from the album, "No Time No Hope," at their site. It's pretty great. The cover is above. [Matablog]

"The band promise that the album has 25 percent higher fidelity"

Ha. This speaks volumes about the value and intent of the current lo-fi movement. Poseurs.

Pussy Galore was pretty lo-fi, but I didn't care because I could still HEAR THE MUSIC. Even if it did sound like a Radio Shack portable cassette recorder's built-in mic at the other end of a Pringles can.

Times New Viking (and even worse offenders like Wavves), who the f knows if I like them?I haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live. I can't tell from their recordings. Too bad, it sounds like the melodies and performances are inspired. and "No Time No Hope" is better than Rip it Off, I admit. But until these bands get over themselves and their precious "statement," my buying interest will be close to zero.
