You know that stack of old concert tickets you’ve kept in your sock drawer since college? The one that provides irrefutable proof that you saw Chan Marshall and the Roots and Yo La Tengo all jamming together, even though everyone else swears it never happened? That pile of tickets is soon going to look as old as the 8-track cartridges that you’ve carefully pilfered from thrift stores across the country.
Ticketmaster has announced that it wants to phase out the olde worlde tradition of arriving at a show with a printed ticket. Instead, concertgoers will swipe their credit cards through a machine, then gain admittance to the venue. That’s the same credit card that will have sucked up TIcketmaster’s fees and service charges when you booked entrance to the show online. Nervous ticket scalpers will watch Tom Waits’ upcoming Glitter and Doom tour, which is the litmus test for this paperless revolution, with growing interest. [Idolator]
so sad. i secretly get super stoked when i have a paper ticket in my hand. nobody uses them anymore. i guess you can always write the name of the act on the inside of your wristband and keep that? oh wait, i'm not 15 anymore. and that's kind of lame. ok, strike that idea.
I'm surprised it took so long to incorporate this type of technology. Weird that a Waits show will be the first time this is used.

Well, at least this eliminates having to remember your ticket/ the chance of loosing it before the concert!
and doesn't this eliminate scalping? that could be very interesting. Wonder if it we will see the effects.
