Everybody's favorite mega-conglomerate, Ticketmaster, recently agreed to pay a fine of fifty thousand dollars and shut as many as one hundred deceptive broker sites as part of an aggrement with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Ticketmaster subsidy TicketsNow had been accused of creating websites that masqueraded as local venues and then sold unknowing music fans drastically marked up tickets. The TicketsNow websites also failed to state that the tickets being sold were in fact resales obtained from the venues, promoters, or season ticket holders. While it's nice to see at least one part of the huge ticketing establishment be called to task for its behaviors, it is a little disheartening to realize that for only fifty-thousand dollars in convenience fees.
