Sonic Youth main man Thurston Moore will release his next solo album, trees outside the academy, in September via his own Ecstatic Peace label. It will be Moore's first release strictly under his own name in more than a decade. Befitting an alterna rock god, Moore got plenty of help on the album from some big name friends. He recorded it with John Agnello (who also recorded Sonic Youth's previous album, Rather Ripped) in J. Mascis' home studio, where Dinosaur Jr. had recently wrapped their reunion album. SY drummer Steve Shelly manned the drums, while Samara Lubelski of MV/EE and the Golden Road added strings. Sunburned Hand of the Man drummer John Moloney takes over the kit on "Wonderful Witches," and Moore duets with Charalambides' Christina Carter on "Honest James."
