I thought Be Your Own Pet were pretty awesome the handful of times I saw them live, tearing through their rabid little tunes like next-gen punks who'd gotten heavily dosed with the salve of melodic indie rock. Then they broke up. And this was anticlimactic, because the band's rise to power, complete with an eventual major label debut, always seemed like a big ramp to launch them into whatever was coming next.
Turns out "Gossip Girl" is next. Well, at least sort of. Ex-BYOP vocalist Jemina Pearl was probably already in Thurston Moore's fave five, since her old band found a benefactor in Ecstatic Peace. But according to Moore in a post-ATP interview, Pearl will join him on a cover of the Ramones' "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" that's destined to soundtrack some form of deliciously stupid relationship drama on the CW hit. Those rich kids are all hopped up and ready to go. [Rolling Stone, via Stereogum]

That should be cool to listen to. Too bad that it's for Gossip Girl, which is, I guess, watchable, even too watchable, but is insidious in its lameness. I hope the song isn't so.
