Despite the death of Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and the walkout of Genesis P-Orridge last fall,Throbbing Gristle somehow still thrives as the pioneering U.K. band has announced that they're "reactivating" Industrial Records, their seminal label that's been credited as the inspiration for the industrial music genre.
In a statement, TG explains, "Industrial Records hereby announces it’s official re-activation. IR is the sole representative of, and ONLY official label representing and releasing records by Throbbing Gristle. TG’s contract with Mute/EMI expired in June 2010, and despite a number of other offers and proposals, all four members of TG elected to re-start Industrial Records to re-release the IR/TG catalogue and the final TG studio album Desertshore along with other archival recordings."
Desertshore is Throbbing Gristle's reinterpretation of Nico's John Cale-produced 1970 album of the same name. Earlier this year, TG's fellow founding members Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti said they expect to record, produce and mix their Desertshore this fall, though it's still uncertain whether P-Orridge will participate.
In the meantime, you can now order various Throbbing Gristle recordings that Industrial Records purchased from Mute including "end of line" bargain titles such as 20 Jazz Funk Greats and The Second Annual Report via the TG mail order site. Expect deluxe vinyl editions of said albums as well as other Gristle classics on Sept. 26 through IR. [via Fact Mag]
