Guess who's remixing Radiohead's "Nude." Well sure...you, me, your next-door neighbor, and your neighbor's pet hamster, since the band's made it a worldwide, all-invited competetion. But now a pro's getting into the act as well--'80s synth-pop king Thomas Dolby was apparently so taken with the notion that he decided to contribute his own "Nude" mix to the fray.
Dolby's was always all about being at the vanguard of technology--years after he was done topping pop charts, the tech-head was responsible for some major advances in polyphonic ringtones for cellphones, and in recent years he's toured as a one-man show surrounded by banks of state-of-the-art gear producing a mighty, multimedia maelstrom. So it's not surprising he'd be tempted to join in Radiohead's grand experiment.
And the remix? Oh, that. Yes, it's a lovely, understated thing that emphasizes the ghostly atmosphere inherent in the song, adding dreamy effects and downplaying the drama for a subtle, intoxicating feel. Still, one can't help hoping this will inspire Dolby--who hasn't released an album of new music since 1994--to finally throw down some new tracks of his own. Maybe he can let Radiohead remix him.
