You ever watch one of those videos that just crushes your spirit? Yours might be the new Weezer video, Sarah Palin as a pundit, or Jay Leno somehow still being on NBC. Mine is the video above, where this five-year-old kid named Jonah just totally shreds System of a Down's "Toxicity" on drums. I mean, I played drums for 10 years, and this kid, who is one-fifth as old as me, is probably already better than I ever was. I probably graduated high school the year this kid was born. It's demoralizing.
I think the part that crushes my spirit most is how effortless he makes this look: Everytime he smiles into the camera, it's like he's saying, "Look what I'm doing here. What have you done with your life? Nice shirt, asshole." And I've got no answer. Jonah, I bow to you. [Videogum]
Prodigies are cute.
Seriously, though. Get that kid in a drum-off with ?uestlove.
I believe everyone has something they excel at. Most people don't find out what that thing is until late in life, if ever. Jonah appears to be one of the lucky few who got an early start! I can't wait to see what he does in the future.
hes great for his age, but i am a drummer who honestly doesnt think he is that great.

Cheese: The kid's 5.
He's really only better because he had a mammoth drum set. How many cymbals does it take to make a 5 year old happy?
