So, did anyone see this coming? Legendary rock group The Who has apparently signed a record deal with Universal Republic Records, and will release their first album in twenty-five years, Endless Wire, on October 31. Monte Lipman, President of Universal Republic Records had the following to say:
The Who not only defined their generation, but every generation of artists that followed with their genre-defying mixture of rock, R&B, and conceptual breakthroughs. Were honored theyve chosen Universal Republic and are certain their new album is poised to reinvigorate the music world all over again.
In addition to the new album, The Who will be embarking on their first world tour in almost twenty years. The tour is set to kick off Spetember 12 in Philadelphia and will see the band touring all across North America until December. Dates in South America, East Asia, Europe and Australia are tentatively scheduled for early 2007. Filling out the touring lineup will be Zak Starkey on drums, Pete Townshends brother Simon on guitar, Pino Palladino on bass and John Bundrick on keyboards. Dates are as follows:
