Having made the leap to the majors last month by signing to Universal Republic, The Weeknd wants to assure us that this doesn’t signal a change. In a new letter penned to his fans, the OVOXO crooner, real name Abel Tesfaye, addressed any worries of him selling out — and rightfully so, as this is something that core listeners have been plagued with for years in the music industry.
He broke down the concept behind his brand new “Rolling Stone” video and used it to illustrate his inner-battle between artistic integrity and sound business. “This does not mean what you think it means,” he concluded, referring to his new deal.
The Weeknd’s first release on Universal Republic, Trilogy, is due out Nov. 13. You can read his letter below.
