The Weeknd Begins First US Tour

Part of the Weeknd’s initial allure was his mystery. The Canadian R&B singer — also known as Abel Tesfaye — had purportedly never left his native Toronto, and never performed anything bigger than the University of Toronto Black Student Association talent show before the release of his excellent House Of Balloons mixtape last year. So playing Coachella and touring the states has to be something of a culture shock for the guy. Mr. Tesfaye kicked off his inaugural tour last night at the packed, sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn last night, and will be playing shows across the country in the coming months. Check out photos from last night’s show, tour dates, and the Weeknd’s excellent “The Morning” below.
