The Village Voice Reveals Annual Pazz & Jop Results

Do we need another end-of-year poll from 2009? The Village Voice appears to think so, and has released its annual list of Pazz & Jop winners, which have been culled from the votes of hundreds of tastemakers in the music industry. These aren’t exactly halcyon days for the New York institution, but Pazz & Jop is usually worth a look.

Unfortunately, this year’s album poll simply looks exactly like all the other summaries of the year in music. Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion comes out on top, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix holds down the number 2 slot, Raekwon is the highest placed hip-hop album…and you know the drill by now.

More inspiring is the group of essays that accompany the charts, with former Idolator writer/editor Maura Johnston offering the illuminating Down With Music-Racism, and guest columnists Das Racist offering a blow-by-blow account of their first year together as a band.

Kinda frustrates me how low Brother Ali is on that list. Oh well, I tried.

Andrew Martin and I submitted lists (any other Prefix writers).

Apparently I was the only supporter 6 of my 10 top 10 singles. Those 6 include Morrissey, Black Lips, Mew, and Titus Andronicus. Whaa?
