While I was at home visiting the 'rents this weekend, a commercial came on the TV that my old man had been talking about: "Hey, didn't you used to play this song all the time?," he asked. Yes I had. The song: The Unicorns' "I Was Born (A Unicorn)." The commercial: One for Crayola Color Explosion, which allows you to color sharks in 3-D. Crazy.
By the magic of YouTube, the ad is above. Crayola has a thing about using indie rock to soundtrack their ads ( like this one with Animal Collective , or this one with Dan Deacon ) but it's pretty random for them to pluck this song out of the air. It came out way back in 2003, and the band hasn't even been together since around then. Whoever is choosing the music for these deserves a cookie. Also, 3-D crayon drawings? I remember being blown away by them having a box that had 128 different colors. [via Stereogum ]
