Over at The Independent, John Elmes compiles a list of the ten most covered songs of all time. As you might expect, the list is 50% Beatles records—well, 40% Beatles and 10% Lennon solo—so while Elmes doesn’t detail whether he took a scientific survey or just based the rankings on his own perceptions, it’s probably pretty close either way. Is the list a tribute to some of the greatest songwriters of our time or an indictment on the lazy pop singers that followed them? More importantly, will “Umbrella” or “How to Save a Life” be on revised lists in another 40 years as well? Let’s hope everyone just sticks to “Over the Rainbow.” [The Independent]
The ten most covered songs of all time basically a Beatles mixtape
