The Strokes Make Comeback in London (Video)

· by

The barely concealed secret comeback show by The Strokes happened in London last night (June 9), although anyone hoping to hear the band’s new material left empty handed. According to NME, the group played an 18-song greatest hits package, which was watched by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and an audience of 500 people at Dingwalls in Camden.

Julian Casablancas and his band are in the U.K. to play the Isle of Wight festival this weekend, and quickly sold out the intimate show after announcing it the day before it took place. “New York City Cops” opened the set, and apparently the stage banter was limited to a few wisecracks and Casablancas checking to make sure everyone was alright.

So, why no new material from the band, who are reported to be working hard on a new record? Perhaps Casablancas’ solo touring commitments prevented them from rehearsing? Or maybe they are wary of new songs instantly leaking online, as they inevitably would have done after this show? Either way, that wait for new Strokes material seems to be stretching out for a long, long time.
