The Shins Sign To Columbia, Prepping New Album For 2012

This past April's news that James Mercer was working on a new Shins album didn't come with much else information aside from the mere announcement that a follow-up to 2007's Wincing The Night Away was indeed being planned. That changed today, though, when the frontman revealed that his label, Aural Apothecary, has signed a deal with Columbia Records. And that aforementioned new album? Mercer said that we'll be hearing it in 2012.

The band also announced a series of gigs set to take place in the coming months. They will first trek across Oregon and into California before they head to Toronto and the East Coast in September. You can view the full schedule below.

08.08 Eugene, OR: W.O.W. Hall
08.09 Bend, OR: The Domino Room
08.10 Portland, OR: The Doug Fir Lounge
08.12 San Francisco, CA: Outside Lands Festival
09.22 Toronto, Ontario: Phoenix Concert Theatre
09.23 Philadelphia, PA: Popped! Festival
