Chicago's The Sea and Cake were due to release a new album, or mini-album in this case, as their previous effort, Car Alarm, dropped three years ago. Aside from a really busy 1995 and two quick records last decade, the quartet has typically taken three or four years between albums.
As I indicated, though, The Moonlight Butterfly is technically a mini-album -- and not an EP -- that features six new tracks clocking in at about 33 minutes. It apparently includes some new direction from the band as they are exploring different structures and textures with varied instrumentation. The project additionally serves as a holdover until a proper full-length album, which is due out in late 2011 or early 2012.
The Moonlight Butterfly drops May 30. The track list is below.
