The Roots are reportedly retiring from touring to serve as Jimmy Fallon’s house band

Rumors have been bouncing around the Internet this morning that have Philadelphia rap group The Roots reportedly retiring from touring starting in March in order to serve as Jimmy Fallon’s house band for his late night talk show. Fallon’s show is set to replace Late Night with Conan O’Brien when Conan takes over for Leno.

The rumors started when ?uestlove reportedly revealed the plans in an interview before a show in Chicago this weekend. The interview was supposedly at one time on YouTube, but is now down. Whether or not this all a publicity stunt for Fallon’s show, or just a bad Internet rumor is not known.

But if it is true, Fallon could have the most entertaining and interesting band on late night television. Too bad his show is likely to have a lot of smirking and an inability to keep a straight face. [Rap-Up]

Sounds like a bad career move.

It could be cool, but I probably won't be able to force myself to watch Fallon even if the roots are involved.

Yeah I was sad to hear this news too... hard to see them reduced to being backup for that dude.

Still, a hiatus from constant touring might be good for them... those guys are non-stop.

Probably good in terms of more exposure but c'mon... Jimmy Fallon. Ugh.

Good in that when they return from hiatus people will have a better appreciation for them.

They tour so often, that a Roots show isn't such a big deal anymore. 'You don't know a good thing till its gone' is what Im ultimately trying to say.
