The Police to perform its last show ever in NYC

This is it. The band swears. The Police will never play another concert again. Sting, Summers, and Copeland were already inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame back in 2003, so there’ s no chance of them ever doing some sort of one-off in celebration of themselves. Then again, maybe something like another Live Aid/8 event will come along, or Coachella 2031.

The Police announced at a press conference with Mayor Bloomberg that the band’s last concert will be in New York at a date to be announced in August. It will be a fundraiser for arts programming on public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW New York. Tickets will be available online via the two station’s websites.  In addition the band will contribute $1 million to Bloomberg’s MillionTreesNYC initiative to plant trees throughout the city, which will match that $1 million. The Police are touring this spring and summer with Elvis Costello & the Imposters.
