"Unconventional" and "liberating" says The New York Times of Village-based NYC venue Le Poisson Rouge. Only in its second year, Le Poisson Rouge (The Red Fish) has been deemed by the Times as the "coolest place to hear contemporary music." The venue indeed has gained a solid reputation among its peers as for offering a splendid mix of indie rock, jazz, classical, experimental and electro-acoustic tunes. The Times goes on to enthusiastically describe Le Poisson Rouge as the creative brain-child of David Handler, who is himself a violinist and composer, having attended the Manhattan School of Music. Indeed the venue has held a number of experimental performances, including shows that feature multiple stages where the spotlight shifts from artist to artist during a set. According to its creator, Le Poisson Rouge comes bearing a mission to "foster a more symbiotic relationship between art and music." Mission accomplished. [NYT via The Daily Swarm]
