The National's 'Long Count' Project Transforms Into Album

The National might be the busiest band in indie rock today. They're out supporting their excellent new album High Violet, they're assisting on Sufjan Stevens' next album, and now they have yet another project to cram in time for.

National members Aaron and Bryce Dessner created the multimedia project The Long Count last year, combining original music with the work of visual artist Matthew Ritchie. In addition to National vocalist Matt Berninger, the project also featured appearances from My Brighest Diamond's Shara Worden and Kim and Kelley Deal of The Breeders. That music will now be released as an album, recorded by the Dessner brothers and Berninger. According to Bryce, the album version of The Long Count will be more experimental than the stage show, and that a tour supporting the album is also in the works. [Pitchfork]
