As we get closer to the general election, more and more public figures come out of the woodwork and proclaim their party affiliation. In recent years, indie rockers like the Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes have been pretty vocal about who they favor.
This election cycle is no different, and if you find yourself at President Obama's speech on September 1 in Des Moines, Iowa, you'll be treated to an interesting opening act: the National. The group has supported the President in the past by making t-shirts and giving the song "Fake Empire" to a campaign ad in 2008. They also have experience as the President's opening act, doing so in Wisconsin during the 2010 mid-term elections. Will the National's dour stateliness resonate with Iowans? Stay tuned. [P4K]
