The dust has barely settled on High Violet, but The National aren’t resting easy. The group have announced plans for a lavish reissue of their album from earlier this year, which will come packaged in a two-disc format with unreleased songs, live recordings and rare B-sides all included inside.
The album will make a reappearance on Nov. 23, and contains tracks omitted from the original pressing, including “You Were A Kindness” and “Wake Up You Saints,” plus the B-sides “Walk Off” and “Sin-Eaters,” and an alternate take of “Terrible Love.” The package is completed by three live songs.
The reconfigured High Violet will now look like this:
Terrible Love
Sorrow
Anyone's Ghost
Little Faith
Afraid of Everyone
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Lemonworld
Runaway
Conversation 16
England
Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks
Bonus Disc:
Terrible Love (Alternate Version)
Wake Up You Saints
You Were a Kindness
Walk Off
Sin-Eaters
Bloodbuzz Ohio (Live On KCMP)
Anyone's Ghost (Live At Brooklyn Academy of Music)
England (Live At Brooklyn Academy Of Music)

Funny how the hype cycle makes things seem like they came out forever ago...I stumbled across "Lemonworld" yesterday and felt like I was listening to some long-forgotten favorite. Subsequently, this same-year reissue makes perfect sense to me.
I always wonder how much the band itself has to do with things like these. The National aren't the first to do it, and I'm sure the bonus material will be solid, but these kind of quick turnaround reissues are just cash grabs, aren't they?
Probably, yeah--although I'm less inclined to oppose these sorts of things on principle nowadays, seeing as how you can just buy the material you don't have on iTunes (although those who still put stock in physical music are sort of screwed, here).
I'm actually pretty excited to here this "Terrible Love (Alternate Version)," as I was one of the people disappointed with the album version after first hearing it on Fallon.
Yeah, I don't oppose them at all. I just wonder what the band thinks, out of curiosity more than anything. Looking forward to that alternate take too, and the studio version of "You Were A Kindness".
