The Muslims discuss name change

Earlier this week, San Diego buzz band The Muslims announced they were changing their name to Soft Pack due to being tired of people making jokes about their name. The band recently talked with NME about the change, and even claimed they hated their original name:

"Why did we change the name of our band? Because we hated it.

 

"When we started the band, the name meant absolutely nothing to us and grew to become something we couldn't stand. We were disgusted with and exhausted by all of the ignorant, often racist, bullshit that came out of people's mouths during shows/interviews/conversations."

I’m sure the band chose the name as kind of a lark, as a way to get more publicity, but then realized it’d be annoying to always have to answer for it. I’m not sure Soft Pack is a much better choice, but at least they don’t have to talk about their name all the time anymore. [NME]
