Fargo Rock city is music journalist giant Chuck Klosterman's memoir-ish collection of essays about the rise and fall of 80s metal, centered around Klosterman's personal experience as a dutiful metalhead growing up in Wyndmere, North Dakota. If you've read the book, you know that its cinematic potential isn't necessarily obvious, but apparently Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn and "Late Show with David Letterman" writer Tom Ruprecht don't think so; the pair are adapating the book into a screenplay.
According to the Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business Blog, Finn and Ruprecht acquired the rights to the book, and are set to co-produce the film along with Klosterman. According to the blog, "The 1980s-set screenplay will revolve around a group of high school seniors facing graduation as they try to find success with women and generally break out of their geeky cocoons." So wait, does this mean this coming of age story will not have an indie soundtrack? Is that even legal? Sounds like suicide guys. Suicide.
