Yoko Ono released Take Me To The Land Of Hell last week, and to promote the album, she's performing on the Late Night show with David Letterman, but not without friends! The Flaming Lips are joining her for this performance - slated for October 2. This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, considering their collaborations on a split EP, Christmas album, New Year's shows, and on the collab album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.
Elsewhere in Lipsville, Wayne Coyne has been working on 7,000 different projects: a Stone Roses cover album (a la their Dark Side of the Moon and In The Court Of The Crimson King cover albums), an EP of songs inspired by the upcoming Ender's Game movie, and a split covers EP with Tame Impala. The EP will feature the fearless freaks doing Tame Impala covers and vice versa - "Runway, Houses, City, Clouds" and "Elephant" (!!!) is confirmed to be on the EP on the Lips' side, and speculation has Tame Impala covering "Are You A Hypnotist??" and "Silver Trembling Hands" - songs they've been playing live lately. The EP will only be four songs, sadly. (If only a full album!)
UPDATE: Here's the back of the Ender's Game-themed EP, titled Peace Sword. You can read more about the EP here.
All of these will no doubt have limited releases and only be available in hometown record shops in Oklahoma City or on tour.
You can read more information on all of these releases at the ever-excellent fansite The Future Heart, which has a complete fall preview for all the upcoming Lips projects here.
Coyne was also kicked off Instagram, but already has a new account. There's a petition (which you should sign if you remotely enjoy Coyne, him shouting out to a bunch of new bands and artists, and generally being an awesome person). Moby put it this way.
“There is no place for artistic censorship in a free society. Especially when the artist in question is Wayne Coyne. Bring back Wayne’s amazing images."
