A few basic details about the Flaming Lips’ new double album were released last month. It was rumored that the title would be Embryonic, and that has been confirmed in an interview with Wayne Coyne on BBC 6Music. No release date has been set, but Coyne claims it will surface in the fall, around the time of their ATP performance.

The singer worked for 12 years at a seafood restaurant in Oklahoma City and claims that recording the album was akin to a stint in a kitchen. "I think it must be like being a cook in the kitchen,” he said. “You’re preparing this great thing, but by the time it's ready you’re sick of it because you’ve been smelling it, you’ve got it in your hair and in your fingers and all that.”

Embryonic is currently living up to its title—the songs don’t yet bear names or a running order. “We want to go in so many strange directions,” said Coyne. “And sometimes we’re unfocused and sometimes we’re just so wishy washy.” The Flaming Lips will headline the annual Pitchfork Festival in Chicago on July 19.
