Montreal’s The Dears were left scratching their heads after their tour bus was stolen on the eve of a tour this week. The band members were set to hit the road on Thursday (April 30), only to discover that the bus was mysteriously missing. “How does a 45-foot tour bus get stolen?” asks singer Murray Lightfoot.
“We’re kind of astonished that a whole bus can get stolen,” he continues. “It’s so Grand Theft Auto that it’s almost surreal.” If the thieves were hoping to score some of the band’s gear, they were out of luck. The bus was mostly empty, with no luggage or gear on board.
Lightfoot says: “we’d definitely have to cancel the tour,” if there had been equipment on the bus at the time of the theft, providing a small upside to the incident. "It’s like society has become morally bankrupt,” he says. “People can’t just go around taking other people’s shit.”
