Despite the bad publicity stemming from an opening night shooting, The Dark Knight Rises is still drawing fans. Topping the box office for third consecutive weekend, the film brought in $36.2 million this weekend beating new films like the rebooted Total Recall, which brought in a disappointing $26.5 million and the third Diary of a Wimpy Kid ($14.7 million).
Ticket sales for The Dark Knight Rises fell only 40 percent from last weekend, proving that fans may be putting the shooting behind them and heading out to the theatres to catch the summer’s biggest blockbuster.
Overall, the film has made more than $350 million in domestic earnings, making it the year's third-highest-grossing film behind The Avengers and The Hunger Games.
