The Chris Knox Benefit Concert Sells Out

On June 11, 2009, noted New Zealand rock 'n' roll musician Chris Knox suffered a debilitating stroke. In order to contribute to the costs of his rehabilitation, artists such as Jay Reatard, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel came together to create the benefit album Stroke: Songs For Chris Knox. Recently, a concert was scheduled for Thursday, May 6, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City to raise additional money for Knox.

The lineup (set times TBD) includes Yo La Tengo, The Clean, Jeff Mangum, Portastatic, Kyp Malone, John Mulaney, Claudia Gonson, Dimmer, and Sharon Van Etten. However, fans who wish to aid in Knox's recovery as well as see a rare acoustic set from the reclusive Mangum will have to be creative to find tickets. Ticket sales, which began at noon today on Kickstarter, quickly closed when the benefit sold out in a mere 40 minutes. The project exceeded its pledge goal of $37,500 by raising $40,545 to date.

$75.00 + fees and tickets were gone in an instant. I support the cause (and who doesn't wanna see Jeff Mangum?!) but the execution is poor. Do it in a venue that can meet the demand and charge half as much, make a ton more money.

@MFB
I don't think they knew how well the event was going to sell. When you ordered tix they talked about the show being canceled if they didn't reach their pledge goal. Seems like a "hindsight is 20/20" kind of deal.

The first billed performance by Jeff Mangum in almost a decade. Everytime Mangum sneezes, every music outlet on earth writes a story about it.
