Once again, something appears on the cover of a Budos Band album that could kill you. First, it was a volcano, then a scorpion. Now, on the cover of the appropriately titled The Budos Band III, there's a massive cobra. It all makes sense, considering the sheer danger that comes through in their blistering afro-funk tracks.
Daptone will release the new album from the Staten Island collective on Aug. 10. Until then, you can check out the lethal album artwork and first single "Unbroken, Unshaven," here. Full disclosure: doing so will sign you up for Daptone's e-mail newsletter. According to baritone saxophonist Jared Tankel, it was the band's goal to record Daptone's first "psychedelic, doom-rock record." While that doesn't really come through in this track, a harsher edge definitely does, with everyone seemingly playing for their lives.
