The Sub Pop stable's about to get a whole bunch cuter as New Zealand retro-pop band The Brunettes release their first album for the indie powerhouse, entitled Structure & Cosmetics, on August 7th. The album was recorded in Auckland, New York and Portland, OR, where the band borrowed gear from labelmates/tourmates The Shins. This particular journalist was smitten by leading lady Heather Mansfield from the first time he laid eyes on her, in a tiny university bar in Wellington, NZ back in 2003. But she's got a fine-lookin' bookish male counterpart in Jonathan Bree, so let's hope the doting guy/girl cooing between the two of them is just for show. Man, between The Brunettes and The Bird and the Bee, 60s mod fetishism is all set for a comeback, no?
Listen to the first single "Her Hairagami Set" on The Brunettes' Myspace page, and scope the tracklisting for Structure & Cosmetics after the jump. Cheers!
