Swapping the main stage for the baseball diamond, The Black Keys have announced that they are sponsoring their very own little league team in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. According to TMZ, the garage duo are sponsoring a team in the West Akron Baseball League, donating $300 to the lucky sluggers. Not that music megastars dabbling in sports teams is anything new; Jay-Z, Elton John and even Pat Boone all got into the act, however Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney’s involvement has a more personal touch.
TMZ reports that lead singer Auerbach played for the same league back in the day, and the current roster features the son of a childhood chum. To cap it off, the duo promised to autograph all of the players’ shirts. Check out the jerseys, these could be as sought after as the band’s cover of Captain Beefheart's “Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles” on sea green vinyl.
