The Black Keys are the subject of a documentary chronicling their ongoing El Camino world tour. Director Noah Abrams is keen to note that the film will not be a conventional rockumentary, but will a “buddy movie with the greatest soundtrack of all time.” Speaking with Spin, Abrams, a photographer who has worked with everyone from Cee-Lo Green to Jack White, spoke of his time with The Keys, “I’m fortunate enough to know both these guys pretty well and their relationship is pretty incredible and very funny.” Abrams will be with the band on their world tour until the fall, with the film likely seeing the light of day next year.
The Black Keys’ seventh album El Camino has propelled the group to the higher echelons of commercial and critical success. Peaking at #2 on the Billboard chart, the album featured in many publications’ best albums of 2011. Last month’s show at Madison Square Garden sold out in a mere 15 minutes. The band even made mainstream news when they dismissed rock ogres Nickleback as “crap”, an assertion that only increased their appeal. Abrams though, stresses that the success has not affected the band, “For as big as these guys are now, they're still two guys from Akron. The comedy is usually endless with these two."
