The Bar For "Unplugged" Officially Lowered With Trey Songz Episode

· by

Look, I know Trey Songz is more popular than any band they could have on MTV's Unplugged that would actually be transcendent (like, say, the Antlers, for instance), but his songs about fucking don't really benefit from being turned into "acoustic" jams as they were on the latest episode of Unplugged. And in all honesty, the string arrangements are more entertaining than Trey's sub-R.Kelly lover-man pose. That said, I imagine the ratings for this were probably pretty good. Dude has a lot of lady fans, and this allowed Trey to seem more sensitive than he comes off in most of his songs. The first part is above. Head to OnSmash if you're interested in more.

Andrew you can STFU. Drink on that Haterade son. You probably live in the state of Wisconsin or North Dakota where R&B is the last thing people listen to.

Glad someone noticed this...

Most embarrassing for him should have been his ungodly cover Sam Cooke's immortal "A Change Is Gonna Come." There was no feeling, emotion, or soul of any kind. This is what happens when your ego is out of control; you think you're "that" good.

I think Trey Songz deserved every right to be on Unplugged. It not only show his ability to give a live show, but also showed that he knows how to tone down his music for certain audiences. Even my dad (who's in his late 40's) enjoyed it. I think it was his best performance...mad love for Trey Songz!!!

Trey was terrific on Unplugged--particularly his cover for "Change Gon' Come" by Sam Cooke. He has more depth than what most people hear on the radio. He is an active participant in helping to develop his community and has encouraged children to be safe from violence and focus on school for success. He participates in benefit concerts for Haitian relief, promoting green living on college campuses, etc. And while people will complain about the sexual content in his songs, it is because of those songs that he has gained the public platform to be the community participant across the country and inspiration for youth who are growing up under similar economic conditions as he did. Lastly, it is very responsible of him to promote safe sex IN the songs he sings. Trey deserves the recognition and attention and I support his music and off-stage endeavors.
