When you catch lightning in a bottle, you can't let it sit around for very long. The producers of this summer's smash hit The Amazing Spider-Man realize this, and they aren't wasting any time getting a sequel in front of audiences.
According to ComingSoon.net, filming for the next installment (tentatively titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2) will begin in February. There are many good reasons to move forward quickly on the film. The first is, obviously, to make money, as interest in Spider-Man remains high.
The second is probably unique to the franchise. The original trilogy directed by Sam Raimi informs many people's views of the character, so filmmakers have to move quickly to make their vision of the Web-Slinger front and center in fans' minds.
Stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return, as will director Marc Webb. The most important addition is expected to be Jamie Foxx, who is reportedly going to play villain Electro.
The Amazing Spider-Man made a lot of money at the box office, but it's fair to say that it's underrated in the epic canon of 2012 superhero movies. After all, this was a year that saw the incredible triumph of Joss Whedon's The Avengers, as well as the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Check Spider-Man out on DVD or Blu-Ray now, as you'll soon be hearing a lot more about the sequel and its development.
